Stone Italiana recomposed quartz and marble tiles have no capillary pores and therefore have a very low water absorption rate (0.05%).
When laying Stone Italiana tiles we recommend the following procedure (as per instuctions detailed in our Invoice) :
1. Stone Italiana floor tiles must be laid on dry and moisture free concrete flooring using one of the following adhesives:
Laying the tiles on wet sand and cement mixture is prohibited.
2. Sand and cement screeded floors must be allowed to dry for 21 days as per Australian Standards: AS3958-1-1991,A8. The moisture content in the substrate floor should preferably be less than, and no greater than 5%.
3. Adhesive and water proofing membranes (or moisture barrier) must be compatible. If this is not possible, an epoxy-based adhesive such as Latapoxy must be used.
4. Expansion joints are recommended as per the Australian Standards.
5. Butt joints are not recommended and a grouting line must be allowed between 3-5mm, depending on tile-size. For grouting use a prepared mixture not sand and cement.
For larger tiles, example 600x600 or 600x1200mm, extra care must be taken by the tiling contractor such as buttering the back of the tile to achieve a complete coverage of adhesive. In some instances an epoxy based adhesive such as Latapoxy is recommended.
